What are the Benefits of Membership?

Membership for Non-Locals

If you attend the Exiles Orientation, regardless of where you live, you can become an Individual or Household Member.

If you live outside of the Bay Area (outside of these counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, Sonoma) and are unable to attend the Exiles Safety Orientation, you can become an associate of The Exiles and receive our monthly newsletter, The Lunatic Fringe. Simply sign the Waiver and Liability Release form and pay the annual dues.

If you need a Waiver and Liability Release form, call the our voicemail at 415-835-4739, or send an email to membership (at) theexiles (dot) org and we'll send you one. (Be sure to tell us your name and address!!) Fill that form out, mail it back to us with a check and you'll be an Exiles' associate member and you'll get the newsletter every month.

ASL and Other Sign Language Interpreting

Exiles knows that there is a large Deaf Leather community, and we are pleased to offer sign language interpretation at program meetings every month and at orientation meetings by arrangement.

Requirements for Membership

  • be a woman or a person whose gender self-identification is other than male
  • be over 18 years of age
  • sign a Waiver and Release
  • pay yearly dues
  • have a personal and positive interest in bdsm
  • in addition, local members must attend an Exiles Orientation before joining

Membership Types

Individual Member $36.00  You get into the program meeting for less than half-price. You get safer-sex supplies for even less than the already good deal they are. You get The Lunatic Fringe newsletter mailed to you at home, and a membership card to carry and display with pride. You can join the Exiles Members email list and keep abreast of member news. You get into Janus meetings at the membership rate. In addition you have voting privileges, may attend business meetings, and may become an appointed or elected officer.

Household Membership $42.00  Two or more members living in the same house. Everyone is an Individual Member, but we only mail one copy of The Lunatic Fringe newsletter to your house.

Hardship Membership $15.00  For women who are having financial difficulties. You're still an Individual Member. Please write or call to ask about this.

Associate $18.00  You get The Lunatic Fringe newsletter mailed to you, but that's it. You do not get into the programs at the reduced rate and there are no voting privileges. This is limited to eligible members who cannot attend a Safety Orientation and live outside of these counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, Sonoma.
